Go Hike

Privacy

Your journal never leaves your phone.

Go Hike has no account system, no cloud and no analytics. That is not a privacy stance bolted on afterwards — it is simply how the app works. Everything you record stays in the app's own storage on your device.

Stored on your device only

  • Your hikes: names, locations, dates, distances, difficulty, notes
  • Your observations, including photos taken or picked in the app
  • The places attached to your hikes and observations
  • Your profile: name, avatar, home area, body metrics, fitness level
  • Settings, notification preferences and how far through setup you are
  • Achievement progress and every statistic derived from the above
  • Backups, written to your own device storage

The one thing that leaves

A rough location, sent to a weather service

To return the weather and forecast for where you are. No identifier is attached, and the service (Open-Meteo) requires no account.

Deny the location permission and the rest of the app still works — you just enter places by hand or pick them on the map, and the weather card stays empty.

What Go Hike does not do

  • No analytics, telemetry or crash reporting
  • No advertising or ad identifiers
  • No third-party trackers
  • No account, email or password
  • No cloud sync — there is nowhere for your journal to go

Permissions, and what each is for

Location
Attaching a place to a hike or observation, and fetching the weather where you are. Read when you act, not traced in the background.
Camera
Taking photos for an observation, and scanning QR codes.
Photo library
Picking an existing photo for an observation or a hike cover, and saving share cards you generate.
Device storage
Writing and reading backups of your journal.

Deleting everything

Uninstall the app. Because nothing was ever uploaded, there is nothing left behind and no request to send anyone. Backups you created sit in your device storage until you delete them, either from the backup screen or with your files app.
